Know Jacob's Law
Jacob's Law of internet user experience, introduced by usability expert Jakob Nielsen, states:
“Users spend most of their time on other websites. This means that users prefer your site to work the same way as all the other sites they already know.”
This law highlights the importance of familiarity in design. Instead of creating entirely new user interface patterns, designers are encouraged to:
- Follow established web and app conventions.
- Keep navigation and layout consistent.
- Minimize user learning curves by aligning with common user expectations.
By applying Jacob’s Law, you enhance usability, reduce friction, and increase user satisfaction.
